Learning Disabilities

Learning disabilities affect at least 10% of Canadians. More than 80% of these experience difficulty in learning to read.

Learning disabilities (LD) are now recognized as a lifelong neurological disorder. There are five types: visual, auditory, motor, organizational and conceptual.

It is estimated that at least 30% and possible as many as 80% of students in literacy and basic education programs have learning disabilities.

Adult Learning Centre staff are not qualified to diagnose learning disabilities, but they have participated in training workshops to help them understand, recognize and support these unique learning challenges and needs. We can provide support and accommodations to make learning easier.
